The digital marketing regulation implemented by the European Union has led to several changes on the iOS platform by Apple. One of these changes was to provide flexibility for browsers other than Safari on the platform. In theory, companies like Google and Mozilla could take advantage of this new regulation to make some interventions without being tied to Apple and iOS-specific browser requirements. However, the outcome did not turn out as expected…
Google and Mozilla Show Discontent with Apple’s New Plan!
While Apple appears to comply with the new European Union regulation on the surface, it has chosen to circumvent the laws. Mozilla’s spokesperson, Damiano DeMonte, stated that Apple has done everything possible to prevent the use of any internet browser other than Safari on the iOS platform, and those who want to use Mozilla or Chrome instead of Safari encounter various issues.
Some authorities argue that by virtually eliminating user choice, Apple is killing competition and thereby hindering the user’s internet experience. Internet browsers wishing to be on the iOS platform will also have to comply with a series of new Apple rules.
The most notable of these rules concerns user data. Now, no internet browser like Firefox or Chrome will be able to coordinate with other applications on the mobile phone. This rule is claimed to be directly targeted at Google.
Parisa Tabriz, a senior executive at Google, echoed DeMonte’s sentiments, stating that Apple’s new regulation is highly restrictive and not in the best interest of users.
